Crescent Moon and Venus above NYC Water Tower.

Crescent Moon and Venus above NYC Water Tower.

Unguided photo taken on Kodak Ektachrome E200 film with an exposure of 5 seconds with a Hasselblad 500C/M camera with a Carl Zeiss Apotessar 500mm f/8 CF T* lens at full aperture mounted on a tripod at 7:35 PM on January 24, 2004 from my New York City, NY rooftop. I had just acquired the Apotessar and spent some time testing it earlier in the day. When I saw how close the moon and Venus were in the sky to each other, I waited until they were just above the city skyline and lucked out that they slid past this water tower on their trip to the horizon. For this shot I also had a soft weight resting on the lens right above the tripod mount to dampen the vibration of the shutter and that potentially induced by wind. With the length of the exposure, the moon and Venus trailed at this focal length.
